WORTHING COLLEGE WOMEN’S RUGBY V EXETER COLLEGE – H – W 38-10

The 28th November saw Worthing College entertain Exeter College at HQ.

On a wet and windy afternoon, Worthing were able to field a strong team with a number of players returning from injury.

Worthing started the strongest in a physical exchange with a number of strong carries from all the forwards. An early break from Sara Seye got the team to within inches of the Exeter tryline, and with sustained pressure saw scrum half Amy Saunders score under the post, with Amy getting the resulting conversation.

Worthing continued their excellent dominance in the forwards and it was Teya Ashworth who soon crashed over again for Worthing. A third try for Worthing quickly followed with some great thinking from Lucy Relf who scored from a nicely timed inception.

The forth saw the backs take the limelight with some neat handling between the Italian backline creating a gap for Sofia Rolfi to score under the posts. With the resulting conversation successful from Amy.

Worthing finished the half again on the front foot. This time it was, the returning from injury, Amilia Busby who crashed over to make the score going into the interval 24 – 0

The second half saw Exeter mount a sustained period of attack, however Worthing’s defence held strong, and it was a quick turnover, which saw Rachel shoot down the wing to score under the post, against the run of play. Amy Saunders scoring the resulting conversation. Exeter however soon hit back following the Worthing gameplan, with some strong pick and go’s which was too strong for Worthing.

The moment of the match came from Julie Nelsenat who was having a stormer of a match. All match she was a nuisance for the Exeter defence, usually with Exeter defenders hanging off her, and it was another one of her runs which saw her swat off 4 Exeter defenders to score in the right corner.

Exeter scored the last try of the match, however Worthing held on to win 38-10.

“The girls played really well today, and there was a number of standout performances. The coaching team were really proud how the team adapted to the conditions but still able to keep to the game plan. Notable performances include Captain Lucy Relf who lead from example, and also Julie Nelsenat who’s attacks got the team on the front foot” said Mark Rugman.

Thank you to everyone who came and watched. It was great to have our main sponsors Phillips Scaffolding watching. The girls looked and played the part and this is all due to the support we received from all our sponsors.
