On Wednesday 20th March Worthing College travelled to Burgess Hill Girls School to defend their Sussex Cup title against Hurst College. The match started off well with both teams showing their quality on the ball and shooting well – end of the first qtr 18-16 to Worthing. The second quarter continued in the same manner with some great defensive pressure by all the Worthing players – half time 31-27.

Holly was introduced in the 3rd quarter at wd and made an immediate impact. Worthing continued to create numerous chances for Betsy and Shelby to score with Iona and Bethen intercepting well in defence. Great feeding by Livi and Eli and the score line increased to 45-37 in Worthing’s favour at 3 quarter time.

In the final quarter Hurst were not beaten and showed their skill throughout the court. The Worthing players were starting to tire (one game too many this week after their National Schools win last weekend) but they were not going to give up their title. The girls continued to push on and won the match 53-47 to become Sussex Champions once again.

Player of the match – Holly Stoner.
