Worthing College Netball Squad travelled on Friday to Nottingham University to represent the South East in the AOC National Championships. This was the first time the College had qualified for these finals and what a great weekend it was.
After watching Worthing College’s Alex Fox win both his tennis matches on the Friday afternoon, the girls attended the Opening Ceremony with all of the competitors from across the regions.
On the Saturday morning the girls played Greenhead College from Yorkshire, getting off to a 16-11 win. This was closely followed by a superb victory over Hartbury College 18-15, some great netball played by everyone. The girls did not play so well in the next match v Neath College representing Wales losing 19-23.
Next up were the talented Exeter College and the girls knew they would need to play their best netball to compete. The game was very evenly matched and despite being two goals down with a couple of minutes to play we never gave up and drew the match 21-21. Unfortunately by the final game of the day we were starting to tire and lost 20-15 to the eventual winners Holy Cross.
On Saturday evening the girls all went swimming and then enjoyed partaking in the evening activities such as wheelchair basketball, dodgeball, reaction challenges under neon lights which were all great fun.
An early start on the Sunday and the girls had a great match v Hartlepool Sixth Form winning 28-17. A tough match v SEEVIC ended up in a very physical battle and a 11-11 draw. The final match v Bilborough College from East Midlands finished 29-11 to Worthing, a great way to end the tournament.
Worthing finished 4th narrowly missing out on the Bronze medal by 1 point, a great achievement. The whole squad worked very hard and coach Tina Price was delighted with their efforts.
Squad – Kira Walters (captain), Cally Hunter, Iona Gardner, Olivia Miller, Bethen House, Charlotte Stacey, Ruth Wenyeve, Phillippa Kennedy, Ellie Punter, Holly Stoner.
