The Greens travelled the short distance to Angmering on Wednesday to play the re-arranged Sussex league game against an energetic and determined Angmering team.
The conditions were fair over head but heavy underfoot and that slowed and detracted somewhat from the rugby both teams were trying to play.
The Greens had much the better of the opening 15mins and put constant pressure on the home sides defence and managed to eventually breach the line through Hodson, Bradford and Lean. However Angmering were not in the process of giving up and only some dogged defence from the Greens stupid them crossing. For their effort Angmering managed two well struck penalties and went into the half 20-6 down.
The second half again saw plenty of endeavour from both sides and with the pitch becoming evermore cut up, the jerseys darker and the ball more heavy through mud a wide expansive game was not on the agenda!
Both teams continued to strive for a game to keep the spectators interested and to everyones credit, they did. Angmering were building and had a good 10min period putting the Greens under plenty of pressure and the home side managed a couple of well constructed tries themselves.
The Greens managed to pull away at the end and with the last play scored a converted try which possibly made the result a little less reflective of the contest with the Greens coming out 32-18 winners.
Tries: Hodson, Lean, Sutton, Gevers, Bradford
Cons: Rawlinson 2
