Worthing College netballers travelled to Itchen College to play in the Hampshire League. The 2nd team played first and it was apparent the game was going to be very close with high skill levels on both teams. Qtr time there was nothing separating the teams – 6-6. In the second qtr the match remained tight with some great work in defence by Keeleigh, Kyra and Billie creating chances for Ruth and Ellie to shoot – half time 12-11 to Worthing.
In the second half the girls started to pull away with some lovely feeds into the circle from Lauren and Holly with great pressure from the defence. Ruth was shooting beautifully and Ellie did very well in her new role as ga, 28-15 at 3 qtr time. In the final quarter Itchen started to make a come back but the Worthing girls kept calm and finished off in style – final result 33-19 to Worthing.
Player of the match – Ruth Wenyeve.
The 1st team match was equally as exciting and very evenly matched. The first quarter was very close with both defences giving nothing away – 7-6 to Worthing at qtr time. Tina introduced Cally at centre moving Liv to wa in the 2nd qtr, and with some brilliant shooting by Phillippa and really tight on defence by Iona, Charlotte and Kira the Worthing team pulled away to lead 16-8 at half time.
The second half was a much closer affair but the girls did not give up. Constant pressure on the ball and some good shooting still kept the Worthing girls in front – 23-16. The final quarter Liv moved to ga with Bethen gs, Ashlene coming back on at wa. Both teams were scoring from every centre pass and the match was very evenly match. Final score was 30-24 to Worthing which was a great result against a quality Itchen team.
Player of the match – Kira Walters.
Next up for the Worthing squad is a trip to Wavell School, Farnborough on Saturday for the regional round of National Schools, best of luck everyone!
