Worthing College netball squads travelled to Winchester to Peter Symonds in the Hampshire League. The girls knew it would be 2 tough matches and indeed they were!

The first team started their match well taking a 4-1 lead but a couple of errors allowed Peter Symonds back into the game. End of the 1st quarter was 10-10, both teams showing high quality netball with nothing between them.

The second quarter was not a good one for the Worthing team. Too many penalties given away, some missed shots and misplaced passes which Peter Symonds made the most of – half time 23-17 to PS.

Ashlene was introduced at wa in the 3rd quarter and made an excellent start driving out well for centre passes and feeding the shooters accurately. The switch of Iona to gd and Bethen to gk also made a positive impact in the game with Iona and Kira putting lots of defensive pressure on the PS attackers. This quarter was drawn – 32-26 to PS.

The final quarter and the girls went all out to try and win the game. Iona made a crucial interception which Worthing scored from and Livvy made another with some brilliant marking down the court. The girls started to have the belief they could win, and they all worked extremely hard to turn the ball over one more time. In the final minute they managed to do this and Shelby converted the shot to win the match by 1 goal – 41-40 to Worthing! A great final quarter by the whole team and a very exciting match.

POM – Charlotte Stacey.

The second team had to then follow this and took a while to get into their flow. A few mistakes were made and PS were leading the 1st qtr 11-3. Coach Tina told the girls to focus and start playing how they were capable of doing which they then did in the 2nd quarter. Keeleigh got numerous interceptions at gk and the back 3 of her, Cally and Kyra worked well as a unit. The attack were starting to gel and the feeds in from Ellie and Lauren were good into Phillippa and Ruth – half time 20-15 to PS.

The third quarter the Worthing girls continued to play well and reduced the gap even more. Great shooting by Phillippa kept the pressure on and the end of the 3rd quarter was 29-26 to PS.

The final quarter the girls tried their best to win the match but a couple of turnovers enabled PS to extend their lead. Final score was PS 36 Worthing 30.

POM – Keeleigh Brewer.

Worthing 1st team travel back to Peter Symonds again in 2 weeks to play them in the AOC National Knock Out Cup – what an exciting rematch that will be.
