Worthing College netball squads continued their winning ways beating Sussex Downs in the 1st round of the U19 Sussex Cup and St Pauls in the Sussex League.

Worthing College 1st team started very strongly against Sussex Downs working the ball down the court nicely into the circle. Strong defence created little chances for Sussex Downs and with Shelby and Livvy shooting well in attack it was 12-2 at quarter time.

Coach Tina made lots of changes in the second quarter trying out a number of different combinations – some great feeding by Anna and defensive work by Isobel in particular helped push the score to 32-6 at half time.

In the second half Bethen went to gs and showed her versatility by playing very well in this position. The team as a whole continued to dominate with the final result 62-9 to Worthing. Player of the match was Bethen House – great play in both defence and attack.

At the same time Worthing were playing St Pauls in the Sussex League who had a number of strong players. A difficult start for the home team taking a while to settle – 7-12 to St Pauls at quarter time.

Coach Tina made some changes introducing Shelby into the shooting circle and Iona in defence. This helped the team who then did not concede a goal in the 2nd quarter – 25-12 lead to Worthing at half time.

In the second half Worthing continued to build their lead with some lovely feeding into the circle from Emily Mackrell and great shooting by Shelby and Phillippa – 3 quarter time 40-17.

In the final quarter the girls lost a bit of focus and allowed St Pauls to get back into the game but still winning the match 51-31. Player of the match – Iona Gardner, excellent defending.
