WORTHING COLLEGE NETBALL SQUADS V COLLYERS – W 67-22 & W 54-23

Worthing College netball squads had their first match of the season at home to Collyers on 13th September. After a week of pre season training coach Tina Price was keen to see how well the girls would get on and they did not disappoint.

The 1st team had a great first quarter with excellent defence by Bethen, Iona and Kira limiting Collyers to only 1 goal. In attack the Collyers defence could not stop the feeds into the circle to Shelby whose shooting was spot on – end of 1st quarter 24-1 to Worthing. This continued in the 2nd quarter with some great feeds by Charlotte – half time score 46-8.

Tina made some changes for the second half and Worthing struggled in the third quarter losing this by 10-8. The girls managed to sort themselves out with Livvy and Ashlene shooting well in the final quarter to win the match 67-22. Player of the match was Kira Walters.

The 2nd team started off with a new shooting combination of Ruth and Phillippa which worked well. Keeleigh, Maddy and Billie were a good defensive unit with Ellie and Emily feeding some nice balls into the circle – quarter time 10-5 to Worthing. The lead was increased in the 2nd quarter as the girls started to get to know each others play – half time was 23-9.

Tina introduced changes in the second half and the girls took a while to adjust in the 3rd quarter. The new players soon sorted themselves out and in the final quarter there was some great play throughout the court. Final score was 54-23 to Worthing. Player of the match was Phillippa Kennedy.

Next Wednesday we are looking forward to the girls playing in the Hampshire Open tournament in Southampton.
