WORTHING COLLEGE NETBALL SQUADS V BARTON PEVERIL – A – L 35-17 & L 23-12

Worthing College netball squads travelled to Eastleigh to play 2 strong Barton Peveril sides in the Hampshire League.

The first team started slowly allowing Barton to control the game. They quickly went ahead and Worthing could not recover – qtr time score was 3-8. In the second qtr the girls played much better and Isobel Thompson making her debut in the 1st team, settled well at wd. Yasmin and Charlotte connected well in attack and both Kira and Cally did a good job in defence minimising the chances – half time was 9-17.

Worthing swapped a few players around in the second half which worked well – Lucy went to gk, Faye to centre and Kira wa. The girls tried hard to get back into the game but looked tired at times letting the opposition drive down the court without marking tightly enough – qtr 3 ended 12-24. The final quarter was tough for the Worthing girls but the defence especially Cally never gave up. The final score was 17-35 – player of the match was Faye.

The second team also started slowly making basic errors allowing Barton to turnover numerous balls – 1st qtr was 1-9. In the second qtr the girls improved their play with Emily and Ruth keeping the pressure on in defence – half time was 6-15.

In the second half the girls had many chances to get back into the game but did not capitalise – 3 qtr time was 10-20. In the final quarter the defence limited the Barton goals to only 3 but unfortunately we could not take advantage and the final score was 11-23. Player of the match was Ruth Wenyeve, outstanding defence throughout the match.
