Worthing played away to Itchen in the first stages of the AOC National cup. Itchen kicked off the first half, and Worthing pressured as soon as the whistle was blown. Worthing started off looking like a threat to Itchen. Itchen managed to have a couple of shots on goal but they ended up going wide. There was some excellent play by Worthing, which led to the first goal. A pass was drilled through to Beth who fell over and put the defence off, Sara then managed to get on to the ball and then get a shot away, putting Worthing into the lead. It was clear to see that Worthing were keen for another goal who were pushing high and managed to win a corner which Beth whipped in to the 6 yard box for Linda to get into the air and put the goal into the back of the net making it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go of the first half. Itchen managed to grab a late minute goal which put Worthing under slight pressure before the end of the first half.
Second half, a few changes were made by Worthing. Itchen put on good pressure and stepped up high, leading them to score an equaliser. With this, Worthing knew they had to step it up, and this resulted in Jodie scoring a well-worked goal. Valentine came from an offside position, hopped past a player and slotted a goal past the keeper, putting Worthing into a strong 4-2 lead. With minutes left to spare, Worthing were caught out, and Itchen got a goal back. 4-3, not long left to go, Worthing were under a lot of pressure but played safe passes to ensure the win. Well deserved win for Worthing, putting them into a good place for the group stages.
