The Blues played BHASVIC in the AoC U19 league, this meant Tom Adams, Jurgen Forster, Mike Dingle and Kieran Tomlinson were available after battling away for the Raider’s A’s in recent weeks. Worthing started strongly and quickly applied pressure by kicking a penalty into the corner, Worthing then set-up a drive, through a well executed line out and powerfully controlled it over for Jamie Turner to score the first try of the game. Worthing continue to apply pressure through some strong ball maintenance and strong carrying work. This led to some great handling work down the left-hand side with Finn Holloway-Hudson squeezing over in the corner. Worthing continued this rich vein of pressure and Jonny Owen dived over to score Worthing’s third try of the match inside 20minutes.
Worthing now started to get a little over-confident and started to attempt needless offloads with cost them possession and field position. BHASVIC began to apply pressure defensively and this led to their first try which was a break-away from their own half, when Worthing were pressing for their 4th try, converted made it 15-7. Half-time quickly arrived and Worthing needed to re-group.
It took Worthing another 15minutes or so to really gather themselves again as BHASVIC controlled possession brilliantly and applied some strong pressure. A penalty which was kicked took the score to 15-10. BHASVIC came again and with Worthing unable to apply a strong exit strategy they found themselves under pressure again. BHASVIC kept the ball tight around the ruck and drove strongly with multiple phases culminating with a try out wide. 15-15. Worthing needed to get back into the game. They responded brilliant to this. Worthing got hold of possession, maintained it, through a series of strong drives from Freddie Holmes, Jurgen Forster and Tom Adams. This led to a break from Kieran Tomlinson who fed Marcus Law who beat two defenders to score in the corner. 20-15.

The building pressure from strong carries by Jaap Van Der Vleuten, Marcus Law allowed Worthing to win a penalty on the BHASVIC line. Worthing opted for the scrum and a brilliant pass from Jonny Owen put Kieran Tomlinson through to score Worthing’s fifth try. 25-15. Worthing then showed good control to close the game out by keeping hold of possession and not allowing BHASVIC momentum in the closing stages.
A good game of rugby for both sides, where greater maturity from Worthing would have resulted a larger score line. Although, credit to BHASVIC who fought well throughout the game and caused Worthing trouble at the breakdown, whilst also applying strong pressure defensively.
