The Greens hosted Brock at Raider HQ in this friendly training fixture on Wednesday afternoon. The deck was firm and fast the weather fine so it was set up to be a good afternoon.
Worthing started well, pressured the visitors with fast rucks and physical carries until Ryan Macmillan ran a delightful line of Banister to score from 40m out.
The game ebbed and flowed this way and that but it was Brock that took the initiative with two tries before the end of the first half.
The second half did not start well for the Greens as Brock attacked and broke down the the defence and went under the posts for the five pointer and added the extras taking it out to 17-5 Brock. More determined running was matched by the Greens defence but ultimately it was going to be tough to turn about the momentum the visitors had built up. The Greens manfully stuck to their jobs and made every effort to get back into the game. They were unlucky to be held up over the line then unable to control the ball accurately from the resulting scrum, this blowing a major opportunity to get back into the game.
Brock took advantage and scored a well taken try to go 22-5 up. It was however the Greens that finished much the stronger with Ryan Macmillan breaking through again beating 4 defenders before offloading from the floor to the support, unfortunately Wheat was cut down just by the post and that was the last real attack from either side.
A great performance from an excellent group of young men, all leaving the field disappointed but proud of their efforts.
MoM: Max Tozer- good line out work, strong carries and good defensive effort.
