Sussex Knock out Cup
Worthing 1 – 46 v Bhasvic 2 13
Worthing’s first team took on Bhasvic’s 2nd team in the County cup this afternoon at Worthing at the same time as Worthing’s 2nd team took on Bhasvic’s first team in the Sussex League. Worthing play competitively in the Hampshire League but not every team has a second team so we decided to enter the 2nd team into the Sussex League to give the girls more games and opportunities to play. This did however mean that they would be playing local Colleges first teams.
The first team took the game to Bhasvic quickly gaining an early lead. Lauren making her debut in the first team making a great start at WA and all players on court working hard at the defensive side of their game following last weeks game against Peter Symonds. The first quarter ended 10-4 Worthing.
The second quarter started well with Yasmin and Charlotte shooting well, scoring 17 to Bhasvics 5. 27-9 at half time.
Charlotte came off at half time as she is needed for National Schools on Saturday at Falmer and does suffer shin splints, with Lucy moving to GA. 12 goals scored but what was even more impressive was we conceded 1, under the defensive partnership of Ruth and Emily. 39-10 at ¾ time. Game over as any sort of contest.
Last quarter was a bit sloppy and we only scored 7 to their 3 – final score 46-13.
Worthing 2 16 – Bhasvic 1 30
It was asking a lot of Worthing 2 to compete against Bhasvic first team, but they did. Anna making her debut at WA and again did extremely well with good passing and defence. The game was even for the first 10 mins, with Worthing’s defence of Rebecca and Faye standing firm and preventing Bhasvic from scoring. Our problem was we couldn’t get the ball into the circle to score ourselves. The first quarter ended 10-2 Bhasvic.
2nd quarter moved Faye to centre and Chyna back to GD to try and get the ball into the shooters, Jasmine came on at GA. This worked better with Worthing scoring 6 to Bhasvic 9. Half time 19-8.
Unfortunately we were unable to build on the 2nd quarter and continued to struggle in attack. But we battled and never gave up and won the final quarter to get a creditable half score.
MOM – Jasmine.
Well done all
