The Greens travelled to Christ’s Hospital 2nd/3rdxv for their first game of the season. In the glorious surroundings the Greens put together a battling performance and almost came away with a win. The game started at a furious pace with both sides putting in big collisions with Tom Simmons and Isaac Close leading the way. Eventually Christ’s made a line break and only for a good cover tackle by Adam Lean the try was stopped. Soon after Christ’s broke the line again and the Greens were unable to stop the score. After this Worthing rallied and started to get dominance in the scrum through some brilliant work by Alex Waller, Jamie Turner and Tommy-Lee Mcgee. This set the platform for Harry Garrett and Alex Bosely to dominate the gain-line. Worthing started to gain penalties and kicking to the corner allowed Worthing to demonstrate their superiority in the line out with Henry Godward ruling the skies. This led to Ethan Banister brilliant scoring after a well worked backs move. Christs though had some strong runners and this was starting to tell in the heat just before half time, when they scored again.

Worthing entered the second-half buoyed and continued the scrum and line out dominance. This allowed Worthing to launch attack after attack from their back line. Another, well worked move put Alex Bosely through on the half-way line and he had the speed in which to finish the move off. Harry Garret converted to take Worthing to 5 points, with momentum. Worthing seized this and really started to apply pressure to Christ’s line with several strong drives towards their line, looking for that winning score. As they were doing this Christ’s managed to get an interception and after a couple of offloads they went the full length of the pitch to score.

After the conversion ref blew for full-time.

A gutting end to a really strong first performance for the Green Squad. Lots of positives to take from a playing against a strong Rugby school.

Final Score: 24-12

Try scorers: Ethan Banister, Alex Bosely

Conv: Harry Garrett

MOM: Henry Godward
