Worthing College hosted Queen Marys College in the netball Hampshire League on a sunny afternoon. Both squads were in action and proved to be the better sides winning both matches.
The 1st team had a close match leading 11-8 in the 1st quarter. We stretched the lead to 23-14 by half time but despite patches of excellent play, we made some silly errors trying to force the ball to players who were not free.
At half time Faye came on for Gemma who had defended very well and she immediately made an impact intercepting the ball twice. Boo was getting out for centre passes well from Sophie but our timing was not great for the 2nd pass and we struggled to get the ball to goal. Lucy and Laura were working hard in defence against some good shooters, and in the final quarter Beth drove out well and fed some quality balls into Katy who shot well.
Final score was 42 – 28 to Worthing, player of the match was Laura. We need to work on driving towards the ball and putting pressure on the opposition’s attack before next Friday’s Sussex Cup semi final match v Brighton College.
The 2nd team started brilliantly leading at the end of the 1st quarter 14-2. Some great interceptions from Ruth at gd and Emily at gk alongside some super shooting from Charlotte and Yasmin set the scene for a good match for the home team. In the second quarter Worthing continued how they started with Charlotte Lay playing well at centre, Maddy at wa and Rebecca moving to wd. The score was 24-5 at half time.
In the second half Jasmine came on at centre and Worthing continued to dominate in both circles. Defensively we marked tightly and stopped the ball going into the circle well, in attack Yasmin and Charlotte worked the ball between them nicely both shooting well.
Final score was 46 – 8 to Worthing, player of the match was Emily who is improving greatly with every match she plays. A great team performance by all 8 girls, well done.
