The Greens hosted Steyning at Raider HQ on Wednesday afternoon on a damp and squelchy pitch.
Both sides tried to play good rugby and for the first 3mins the Greens put numerous phases together probing the Steyning defensive line. However excellent work by the visitors provided the turnover opportunity and an excellent finish put the Greens down 7-0.
It was clear that Steyning held the upper hand in terms of performance and experience although the determination shown by the Greens provided a glimmer of hope. It was in the first half undoubtedly not going the way of Worthing and they turned around 18-0 down having had very little pressure or ball to speak of.
A couple of truths delivered at half time and a huge improvement in the defensive and offensive effort from the Greens provided more of a contest for the supporters to watch. Steyning did manage two scores however Worthing did manage to to build plenty of pressure and a score of their own. Grixti crossed the line from a great pick at the base of the scrum. 28-5 was the final but a massive improvement in performance from the Worthing 2nd XV leading to heightened belief that better performances are just around the corner.
MOM James Clegg carried well from 15 beating numerous defenders and making plenty of metres on the carry. One excellent last ditch tackle saving more points.
Marcus Law improved as the game went on marshalling the defence, Scott continued his dog work along with the ever impressive Bryant. More people could be complimented for the jobs they completed but unfortunately it was just not quite enough.
