Worthing v John Madejski Academy – ECFA Premier League

Score: 1-3

Man of the match : Emily Baker

Goal scorer: Annie Rolfe

The teams were quite evenly matched at the beginning of the game,  until Reading’s striker slipped through Worthing’s defence late in the first half and scored in the right hand corner. Up until this point, Worthing had played out from the back well and managed to slip some long balls through the Reading defence causing them some problems.

Reading started the second half with an early goal, lobbing our goal keeper from a long range shot. Their third goal came from a questionable foul against one of Worthing’s centre backs in her penalty box. However, Worthing did not give up and Annie Rolf scored from a reverse through ball from Hayley Bridge 15 minutes from the end of time. Worthing were then on the upper foot and keen to try and get a few more goals in the time remaining. Long through balls were used to try and penetrate Reading’s back line, and both Worthing’s centre backs used their pace to drive the ball forward and try to create some chances. Worthing’s final attack resulted in an indirect free kick at the edge of Reading’s penalty box. Sara Tubby set the ball back to Valentine Pursey whose shot was deflected off Reading’s defensive wall which was the last kick of the game. The final score was 3-1 to Reading.
