Worthing began the game as the sharper of the two teams with high amounts of possession in the opposition’s half. Chances were soon created through the midfield 3 of Dan Rowe, Annie Rolf and Valentine Pursey – who combined well to send Hayley Bridge 1 on 1 with the Bexhill keeper where she found the back of the net, 1-0. Passes then became more fluent and it was soon 2-0 after Brooke Pallant was found at the back post to tap it home. The home team were struggling to break through Bexhill who kept many numbers behind the ball and in their final third; however a 3rd man run from Dan Rowe caught them out and she slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner.
Bexhill were not causing Worthing’s defence any problems although a long ball down their left wing resulted in a corner for the away side, however this was defended well by Worthing.
Worthing continued to attack quickly; making many passes in their final third, and after good combination play between the forwards, they set up Annie Rolf inside the box who scored her first goal of the game. An increase in pressure on Bexhill’s defence led to a corner for the home team – a well placed corner reached Emily Baker just outside the 6 yard box who placed the ball high into the roof of the net making it 5-0. Worthing continued with their large amounts of possession and kept the ball from their opponents. They were finding their success in central areas around the 18 yard box and eventually after some one touch passing it lead to Sara Tubby adding to the score line just before half time. Therefore Worthing were 6-0 up at half time and looked the stronger of the two teams.
Worthing began the second half much like the first, playing with a high tempo and pressing Bexhill high up the pitch with the vast amount of possession in the opposition’s half. Chances didn’t come as fluently as in the first half but Worthing’s persistency paid off as Annie bagged her second of the game. After some good combination play down the left hand side of the pitch, Jodie then calmly slotted the ball past the Bexhill keeper to make it 8-0. Bexhill posed little threat second half and were barely able to get out of their own half. Patient build up led to Annie Rolf completing her hatrick with an accurately placed side footed strike into the left hand corner. Worthing topped off the day with a strike from Amelia Ritchie making the full time score 10-0 on a very good all round team performance from Worthing who had 8 different goal scorers.
