Today was the second round of the AOC National Cup and the visitors to the College were Godalming College, a college who have a reputation of producing good netball teams and their result against Esher College on the previous round led us to believe it would be a tough afternoon.

Worthing got off to a very nervy start, dropping passes and passing to the opposition. Fortunately Godalming were the same and Worthing settled the quickest and soon had built up a good lead, with Katy Begley converting most of her shots. Quarter time score was 17-5. Beth Watson was substituted as she had been unwell all week and Charlotte Lloyd came on at GA. Lucy Hawkins came on a GK and it took Worthing a while to settle but once Charlotte sank her first goal, she relaxed and shot well. The opposition decided to double mark Katy Begley and Charlotte used the space well. Half Time 28-16 so we actually lost the second quarter. Further changes made at half time to give more of the squad an opportunity to play, Charlotte Lay coming on at WA, Lucy moving to WD and Faye back on a GK. This was a poor quarter with Worthing only scoring 9 goals to Godalming 8. Fourth quarter the team went back to the starting 7 to ensure the game was won. The switches worked and Worthing ran out easy winners 50-31.

Worthing need to start better tomorrow and Saturday if they are going to do well in the Regional Champs in Surrey and National Schools at Roedean
