WORTHING COLLEGE WOMEN’S FOOTBALL 1ST TEAM V JOHN MADEJSKI – A – L 3-2

Worthing College Women first team v Reading – A – L 3-2 – player of the match, Valentine Pursey.

Worthing travelled to Reading for their first away fixture of the season. Worthing began the game with strong defensive shape and spells of good possession, limiting Reading’s chances in their final third. Reading began to increase the pressure finding a break through from a passage of play down the left side resulting in them taking the lead. Not long after the restart, Worthing were 2-0 down with a long pace splitting the defence, which the Reading striker latched on to and slotted in at the near post. The next 10 minutes Worthing built up momentum with quick attacking play in Reading’s half. Minutes before half time Worthing’s opposition scored their third after good link up play down our left side before beating Towers at her near post catching her off guard.

Second half got under way with Worthing looking the sharper of the two creating a few half chances. A build up of pressure lead to a blocked shot from Emily Baker which was handled in the box giving Worthing a penalty. Valentine Pursey then made the score 3-1 with a calmly taken spot kick. A few minutes later Worthing struck back again following a through ball from Annie Rolf putting Valentine 1v1 with the keeper who scored her second of the game. Reading struggled to create any chances in the second half after failing to break down the back four with their only chance cleared off the line by Danielle Rowe.

It was a game of two halves which saw Worthing narrowly missing out on a point.
