Worthing College 1 v Barton Peveril (away) 71-28
Last game of the Hamsphire League yesterday saw Worthing College needing a good win to stay top of the Hampshire League as Peter Symonds, Brockenhurst and Worthing College had all lost one game therefore goal difference will decide.
But firstly we had to win the game – we got off to a flying start taking a 10-2, Katy Begley shooting 100% with excellent back up from Katherine Heater and Rosanna O’Mahoney, a lapse in concentration and the score was 12-6, before the girls pulling themselves together to finish the quarter 17-7. A win looked a dead cert so do was the time to focus on getting goals and a better 2nd quarter saw us increase our dominance scoring a further 19 goals and again conceding 7 to finish the half 36-14.
When you are winning a game easily it is hard to stay focused but defensively for the first 10 mins of the third quarter we did and they didn’t score a goal, although the passing into our shooting circle went off a bit, the third quarter ended 52-19.
A target of 70 goals was set for the final quarter and the girls were keen to achieve this. Barton Peveril had gone versatility by now which made in harder for Worthing to stay focused however they did finishing the game 71-28.
MOM Katherine Heater
We now have to wait to see what the final scores are from the final games for Brock and Symonds – Girls you could not have done anymore.
Second team suffered a knock back before we travelled as they only had 6 players due to 4 players being unable to come, however we did not want to cancel the game so off we went.
And off to a flying start, having decided to play without a WA meant the centre (Sophi) and GA (Beth) had to work harder with the backup up of Morgan (GD) and Alice (WD) and work hard they did. Beths shooting was spot on and the score at quarter time was 15 -5. 2nd quarter we continued to dominate with everyone working so hard that you really didn’t notice Worthing were a player down which nearly became two when Morgan had a nasty collision with their GA. She very bravely got up to finish the game but from where I was standing it looked painful. Beths shooting continued and Saz also started to find the net. Half time 26-12.
Beth moved to GS at half time and only having 6 started to show and this was not helped when Alice & Sophi collided mid court !! Fortunately they both got up to continue the game. Gabie and Morgan were intercepting balls in defence but they weren’t getting to the shooting circle and we stumbled through the third quarter wining it by 1, 32-17
Final quarter was just a case of seeing the job through and that the girls did – winning the game 38-23
Very proud of all of you for going with 6 and producing such a great performance to win the game
MOM Beth Watson
