On Wednesday 10th December the Worthing College AASE girls went looking for their first piece of silverware. The first game was against Filton and it was a close game resulting in a score of 7-7. The girls made some good hits and had lots of pace compared to the other team. Maddy Burnage scored and Caroline Hodgson made an excellent conversion. In the second game the more experienced players played Brockenhurst and beat them by a huge 17-7, this game was particularly important to the girls as they wanted to show improvement from a 5-0 loss against the side at the start of the season. They all showed great positivity and aggression to win the game, After a slow start where the opposition scored under the posts due to missed tackles the squad got their heads in the game. This resulted in the side dominating the rest of the game. The tries came from Katie Phillips, Alice Hagen and Caroline Hodgson and Caroline also made one conversion. Finally the girls played Oaklands and won 10-0, Alice Hagen and Caroline scored the tries.
Two friendly matches were set up against our Hampshire friends PSCs where Worthing fielded a team of 1st year students whose combined rugby experience added up to 11 games! The first game was a competitive game on a muddy pitch, however PSC ran out winners. The 2nd match on the other hand was much different, where the Worthing girls took a dominating start with Caroline scoring a first half hatrick. Rebecca Sim was a player to be noted tackling someone three times her size! Altogether the day was a success for the girls coming home winning the AoC South East final- the first of many (hopefully) this season.
