Itchin 6-2 Worthing ESFA Cup
Disappointing defeat against a competitive Itchin team. Itchin started the match brightly and sloppy passing from the Worthing players gifted them an opening 2 goals, despite clear instructions from the coaches. Worthing players continued to try and play attractive football on the edge of the box and Itchen centre forward nicked it and played a neat 1 2 before sidefooting into the far corner for a 3-0 lead. After that the game became a little sloppy and Worthing eventually made there way into the opponents half creating some chances from set pieces and a long clearance from Molly Towers. It was a set piece that provided Worthing with an opportunity to slash the defecit, a fantastic delivery into the box after 15 deflections found its way to Emily Baker whose toe managed to guide the ball into the net. There was delirious celebrations on the touchline from the large away following. (2 coaches and Colin the driver)
Shortly after that the Worthing players had some wonderful ideas and managed to pass it to the Itchen forwards again who dispatched for 4-1.
Half Time – Itchen 4-1 Worthing
After a rejuvenated team talk from the players themselves, Worthing came out the blocks quicker than there opponents who seemed to think the game was won already. Reverted back to the original tactics Worthing started to cause Itchin a few problems and within 10 mins had halved the scoreline. 4-2. Straight after the restart Worthing then had another opportunity to score again but poor finishing prevented that from happening. Itchin finally started to wake up an cause problems for the back 4. Wasn’t long before a 4th was added and then a mistake from the Gk made sure of the win for the home side.
