Worthing College travelled to Itchen on Friday for the BCS Regional Badminton Qualifiers. The team of four arrived ready to don their badminton attire and lunge into the tournament. A promising start saw Women’s Singles player Lisa Phillips, Men’s Singles player Abu Ali and Mixed Doubles team Jacob Jepson and Zoe Linfield smash their first round opponents to win convincingly. It was evident the standard of play was extremely high with word getting round of National and International players present. They battled through the remaining matches. Both Zoë and Jacob and Abu won their pools resulting in a semi-final match. Having gone one set down both matches were a shock to the system. Second set started and both teams stepped it up. Zoe and Jacob delivered some fantastic shots with a strong defensive combination. Abu was placing shots perfectly and working hard to challenge his opponent. Unfortunately despite their best efforts, play and desire, they lost their semi final matches and their campaign to represent South East ended there. Lisa in a round robin style group played match after match showing her perfectly executed smash was her secret weapon. She came across some incredibly strong opponents. Through the final few matches she was not able to hold form. Overall all players came 3rd in their category showing Worthing College has a diverse sporting community.
