The Raiders Academy welcomed Seaford College for the first game at the Sanditon road campus. Players and spectators alike were excited to see how the new look Raiders Academy side had developed over recent weeks and if the always strong Seaford team was continuing to build on their recent success.

The Raiders started well but gave a penalty away in front after a period of possession. 3-0 Seaford after 2mins and it was clear it was going to a very tough day at the office for the home side.

Worthing could not build any pressure on the back of the scrum dominance that was being exerted on the opposition ball, to the frustration of the home supporters. The visitors made great strides forward in to the home 22 and continued to build pressure with a good kicking game and line out. Worthing were defending well but unable to consolidate their scrum and this created issues deep in the home 22. Unfortunately this ended in a scrum turnover and score for the visitors.

At the half Worthing were 21-0 and steering down the barrel, however a gritty and determined second half created a number of ventures into the visitors 22m unfortunately without end result. Seaford showed the extra level of conditioning and game understanding that makes the difference. Worthing toiled until the very end but were ultimately not strong enough to get a score.

Seaford manages to kick two more penalties and scored one try against the run of play to make the final score 32-0 Seaford. The Raiders should be commended for their ambition and enthusiasm for attacking and not selecting the kick at goal when on offer. With a little more time together and games under the belt I have every confidence substantial progress will be made.

An improved performance strange as it may seem from the home side. A step up in class of opposition and a great game of rugby to open up the new Field of Dreams, plenty ton look at on the video and lots of self reflection needed as we move forward to next weeks matches.
