Worthing College finished 3rd in the country, losing their semi final but winning the 3rd and 4th place playoffs. Worthing opened up against a very talented and athletic St Marys School. The opening quarter went well and Worthing played some great basketball and at the end of the first it was 16-16. However St Marys started to show their athetic ability and their shooting skills leading by 14 at the end of the half. Josh Brown was fouled out with 15 minutes to play but as they have done the whole season Worthing stepped up and moved the ball really well. Connor Mountifield, John Bacarro and Sam Gulla shot the ball superbly the whole weekend and in the second half they led from the front hitting 8 3 pointers between them. Worthing eventually lost by a very respectable 11 points 70-59.
The 3rd and 4th place playoffs proved to be the most dramatic game of the season with Worthing College hitting a 3 point shot on the buzzer to win the match 75-74. Josh Brown led all scorers with 36 points and hit the game winning shot. Worthing were down 2 points with 1.4 seconds to play on the clock, coach Dom Baker called a timeout and Worthing college executed the play to perfection. “Credit to the guys, they have worked hard all season and to come 3rd in the country is an incredible achievement. We don’t look like much as a basketball team, we’re small, not very athletic but we make up for that in other areas! We shoot the ball as well as any team in the country I’ve seen this year, we stick to our offensive sets and defensively we work hard. Im so proud of what the guys have accomplished and look forward to next season”.
