Worthing college knocked off Tasis last night to progress to the last 16 in the country in the cup. The win was even more impressive since Tasis haven’t lost at home all season.
Worthing started out slow down 7-2 early which forced coach Baker into a timeout. They recovered quickly and trailed by only 1 at the half. The second quarter proved to be difficult as well at one point trailing by 9 points, but great defensive pressure let by John Bacarro and Sam Gulla helped the team bring the score back to 38-37. The second half was an offensive master class from Worthing executing plays with precision along with great shooting from Connor Moutfield and Josh Brown helped them win that quarter by 4. Worthing extended the league to 12 at one point but Tasis fought back hitting some big 3s, the final score 94-86.
Josh brown lead all scorers with 37, Sam gulla 25 and Connor Mountfield 24. Coach Baker said after the game ‘today was a great result, we have been working hard in practise and that showed today. The guys really stepped up, Tasis are a very well drilled team who also shoot the ball really well so to score 94 points in a game is credit to our guys and our offensive sets. I can’t really pick out any individuals today as it was a complete team effort, I used a 6 man rotation and all 6 guys put everything into getting the W, the guys who didn’t get in were great too, they were loud and silenced the Tasis support. The hard work starts now, we have to re group and work on a few things as we try and progress into the last 8 of the country!’
