Harry makes England Colleges’ debut

A second Worthing College Men’s Footballer has been called up for the England Colleges’ squad.  Smith follows defender Greg Gander into the squad and Smith made his debut last week against Wales Colleges’ in the Anglo Shield 1st Leg.  The game was played at Gloucester and Smith made his debut as a half time substitute, and after a nervous start Harry settled and even had a chance to win the game for England, but his right foot effort was dragged wide.  The game finished 1-1 and sets up an intriguing 2nd leg in Wales later on in March.
Performance Coach Dave Hall discusses Harry’s call up “I received a call from a member of the England coaching staff and spoke to me about Harry.  Harry has had a very positive season and was extremely close to getting in the England Schools squad (made the last 32 at Lilleshall), so this is an amazing 2nd chance for him to represent his country.  After talking to the coaches after the game they were pleased with Harry and his contribution.  They are looking to take both Greg and Harry on tour to Rome in 2 weeks, so again that will be a once in a lifetime experience and one that can only enhance their development and progression, which is what we want all our players to do in the programme, which is to realise their full potential.”
