Worthing played their latest round of the BCS Elite league against a spirited and able Godalming side in less than perfect conditions at Worthing RFC.
The match started with the Blues playing into a strong breeze and this created some issues when clearing lines however excellent defensive work kept the home side from going behind.
Although the weather was poor, it did not dampen the ambition of the Blues and plenty of exciting rugby was played by both sides. With the ball gathering mud to the surface it reduced the chances of high quality sending and receiving however the players persisted and maintained a good level of performance.
Worthing went 5-0 up through Hrydynskyy unfortunately with kicking conditions so bad the extras were not added. Not much changed during teh remainder of the half and the Blues took to the break 5-0 up.
The advantage of the wind should have helped but did not add much to the score board until Harkin finished off some quick work at the penalty mark from Doughty. Harking smashed over from 10m out to make it 10-0 Blues. A good penalty from the visitors made for 10-3 Worthing but that was all that could be created today. Much of the play was set between the two 22m lines and the weather ultimately killed the match as a feast of rugby no matter how hard the players and offical tried. But a win in the BCS Elite league for Worthing and a good way to progress into the County Cup Semi final next week v Seaford College.
Great performances from many, Hassan and Mills again excellent in the row. Mrydynskyy, Gibson and later Morris gained the advantage in the scrum while Wand captained well from 2. The back rows all played their part with Lake being the pick, although Dunk, Packham and Masham all contributed. Hunt and Doughty when on were productive at 9 with stand in 10 Fogerty playing exceptionally well at 10. Bath was brilliant on his return and Deschamps worked very well off his new partner in the middle. The back 3 of Harkin, Evans and McCullough had horrid conditions to play in and yet defended well and countered when the chance arose. Scott came on for the final minutes to supprort the side when called upon. Not used: Lee, Kruger, Peskett, Bathurst,
