The contrast in play from last week’s game played on a sticky wet grass pitch was dramatic, the game was played on a 3G Astro and the football played from Worthing was magnificent, the ball bounced true the first touch and passing was secure which allowed Worthing to go into a lead after 5 minutes through Paige Adams pace chasing onto a through ball.
Worthing then created several goal scoring opportunities and went into a commanding 3-0 lead after relaxing a little and from an inaccurate pass from defence South Downs pinched the ball and managed to score from just outside the box. A further goal from Adams, 2 from Caroline Hodgeson and one from birthday girl Hayley Bridge saw Worthing come in 5-1 up – half time Southdowns 1-5 Worthing. The second half continued with Worthing commanding long spells of possession and were able to adjust playing positions allowing players to play in a variety of roles. Paula Howells went into the strikers position and created several opportunities to score finally finishing off from a cross late on. Hayley Bridge scored a second also seeing Worthing run out 7-1 comfortable winners. POM Danielle Rowe, great versatility.
