Worthing college started 2014 off with a 61-46 win over Oxford college. With many key players out of the Worthing squad due to injury, Ash Francis, john Bacarro, Connor mountifield and Patrick casante were all sidelined. However with the addition of Josh Brown Worthing continued their winning ways! As always they started of in a 2-2-1 press and this proved to be too strong for oxford who only manged 7 points in the first quarter. However the second quarter was very disrupted due to josh brown cutting his finger open. This affected Worthing rhythm and oxford took advantage of this only trailing by 10 at halftime 34-24. In the 3rd quarter oxford came out playing great defensive and only trailed by 1 at the end of the 3rd, however Worthing started playing composed basketball, and great pressure defence which resulted in then comfortably winning 61-46. Coach Dominic Baker added after the game ‘ I’m very pleased with the addition of josh brown this adds some size and strength to the team as well as the best offensive player in the league, add that too Sam gulla probably the best shooter in the league and you have 2 guys who could go off for 70-90 points on any given night. However I have to praise our big guys the reason are guards are open is due to great basketball knowledge and great screens from Dustin Marquez and Josh Edwards. Hopefully we can get all 4 of our injured players fit again ready for our 4th round game in the cup’.
