A little trip up the road to Horsham today for a game in the BCS Plate against local rivals Collyers. The first team accompanied by Morgan, Robin and Saskia (whose game had been cancelled at 12.50 !) who came to support (many thanks girls – great to have you there) were determined to put aside previous results and end the term on a winning note. The game startly slowly with Worthing having many opportunities but failing to convert (no chance of rebounds as the wall was not a foot off the court!). Our passing was good and the team were really working hard for one another. Quarter ended with Worthing wining by 1. The secong quarter started with Worthing taking a 2 goal lead which became a 4 goal lead at the end of the quarter. Some harsh umpiring on Katie L did not deter Worthings strong approach to defence and the team continued to play as a unit. Third quarter found the GD from Collyers adopting some very dubious forms of defence and lead to Lana becoming frustrated and for a few mins this seemed to effect the team, howver we remained strong to go in 2 goals to the good. The fourth quarter saw the lead down to 1 at times, back up to 5, down to 1, very tense from the benches view point, however the team remained strong and a couple of timly interceptions in the last few mins saw Worthing take a 3 goal lead which they held onto to win 29-26.
There was no man of the match – every single player had done what they were asked to do and they all worked as a team.
Merry Christmas Netball Academy.
