With a semi final place at stake, Worthing girls second XI travelled to Brockenhurst for the quarter final encounter. Worthing started brightly having turned up with a great attitude and were working hard to press high and keep Brock in their half. Multiple chances were created and fell Worthings way but the keeper was on form. Worthing finally broke the dead lock half way through the first half with a well taken goal from Zoe. After more pressure from Worthing, we were hit on the counter attack and a great save from Caroline unfortunately fell to the oppositions feet and she tucked into an open goal for 1-1 at half time. The girls were in good spirits at half time despite the score line not reflecting our dominance. Having restricted them to 1 shot in the first half, more of the same was asked for the second half and Worthing immediately took the lead through great team work with Zoe grabbing her 2nd. After great high pressure from Worthing, Eloise forced the centre back into a mistake and saw her self tapping into an empty net after the keeper was beaten. The game began to open up and with Worthing playing attractive attacking football, Katie Burling added a 4th with a goal of the season contender. Shercarla showed great individual skill to turn a player before sliding in the overlapping Chloe Johnson, who then was calm in picking out Burling on the 18 yard box and with a clever sidestepped, thrashed the ball on the half volley across the keeper into the top corner. A quick fire 5th and 6th was added after Chloe Johnson scored a header from a corner and Eloise added her 2nd after another sweeping team move. With the girls playing with great shape, determination and skill, we restricted Brock to 2 shots all game and attacked with great power. Full time 6-1 and a place in the semis secured. Goals – Eloise(2) Zoe(2) Katie, Chloe. Man of the match – Chloe Johnson, persistent threat on the right hand side, showing great athleticism to travel box to box and eventually adding a goal. Top class performance all round!
