Worthing 1-1 Reading

Worthing welcome one of last seasons National Champions to Worthing FC in their second game in the Elite League of the season. Reading started the game the brighter keeping possession well and moving the Worthing midfield around the pitch. This brought about a change in shape from Worthing to combat the well worked possession. This had an immediate effect and Worthing started to work their way into the game using the ball better and causing Reading some problems. The half went on with both sides showing solid defence and lacking invention going forward. Only a long range shot troubled the Reading keeper while Becky Simmonds who was playing her first game in goal for Worthing was untroubled.

The half finished 0-0 with Worthing having the only real opportunity to score with a long range shot that the Reading keeper tipped round the post. The second half started with both teams showing more intent to win the game Caroline Hodgson on her debut hit the bar on the angle before Reading hit the post after a mistake in the Worthing back four. Simmonds then was made to make her first save of the game from close range as the ball dropped down from a corner. Hodgson then broke the deadlock after stealing the ball away from the Reading centre back and calmly sliding the ball past the Reading goalkeeper 1-0 Worthing with 15 minutes remaining. They were unable to hold on however when Reading scored with 7 minutes remaining. The game then leveled out as both teams settled for a hard fought draw.
