Worthing college 8 v 3 Barking Abbey Women’s Football

Worthing welcomed Barking Abbey school from east London to Palatine Park. The game proved to be a good test for the Worthing College squad before they ran out easy winners. The first 10 minutes started even,y with Barking Abbey pressing the ball and winning it back high up the pitch. Worthing slowly started to gain a foot hold in the game and broke the deadlock through Sophie Tribe who stabbed home at the second attempt from a corner. The game remained competitive throughout the first half with Caroline Lelliot making a couple of important saves. Aliss Pidduck got her first goal of the four she would score during get he game before Megan Stow fired in from long range to make the score 3-0. But just before half time a miss up in the Worthing defence allowed Barking to make the score 3-1 at half time.

 

The second half started well for Worthing with them starting to find their rhythm and seeing them break down the Abbey defence regularly Pidduck scored a quick fire three to make it four for the afternoon for her. Worthing were threatening to run away with the game now 6-1 with half hour to play but Abbey responded well steadying the ship before Chloe Lelliot out ran the Abbey defence and rounded the keeper rolling the ball into an empty net. Worthing’s final goal came again through Stow who fired in from long range. 8-1 with 10 minutes to go this saw Worthing switch off and make some sloppy mistakes, work needs to be done at set pieces and two poor bits of defending cost worthing another two goals. 8-3 final score line good test and strong performance but plenty of areas to work on to get a whole performance.
