Wednesday afternoon at 4.30 saw Brighton College come to Worthing to play the quarter finals of the Sussex Knock out Cup.
Brighton were looking for revenge following Worthing’s success last year in the same competition and on arrival it was noted that their attack and defense were atleast 6 inches taller than their Worthing opponents.
The match started slowly with mistakes at either end, shots being missed, and with Hannah Pannell and Shannon Brighton behaving like terriers in defense, Brighton failed to capitalise on their opportunities. Hannah had such a storming first quarter and hassled their GS that the Brighton coach replaced her at quarter time ( a really credit to Hannah) Score at quarter time 4-2. Everything still to play for, defences continued to dominate at both ends so at half time score 8-4. Lana Brynes who was having her best game to date sadly dislocated her knee again and was replaced by Abi Tipler. Third quarter Brighton really upped their game, brought on another shooter (oh to have 4 in your first team squad !!) and took the game away, by the start of the fourth quarter we were just playing for pride and their aim was to get half score. This we achieved with a final score of 31-16.
On the plus side, our timing and driving onto the ball was much improved, particularly Abi and Lana which was testament to the previous weeks training. Defensively I could not have asked for more from Hannah and Shannon.
