After a bye in the 1st round last season’s Quarter Finalists Worthing College entered the competition with a bang after just 15 second which saw Becky Simmonds latch onto a ball over the top and slot home cooly to make it 1-0. This set the tone for the whole match with Worthing in control and only sloppiness being the threat to their dominance of the game.
Paige Adams scored a spectacular second after cutting in from the left flank and blasting the ball into the far right corner past a helpless keeper. Simmonds quickly added her 2nd and Worthing 3rd with a similar goal to her 1st getting away from the defence and blasting past the QMC keeper. Worthing where 3 up inside 15 minutes and well in control. They went onto create several more chances in the next 15 minutes that followed failing to take them through poor finishing a trait that must be improved in future rounds.
They then stepped their foot off the gas and never fully put it back on until forced back into action.
At half time a few stern words where said and the side went out with more purpose a 4th quickly followed when Charlotte Owen scored from long range. This then saw another drop in tempo from Worthing which allowed QMC to get into the game score two goals on the breakaway sandwiched either side of a goal from Darcey James who smashed the ball in from 25 yards.
The two goals woke Worthing up and they scored two goals in 5 minutes to kill that game off and bring the tempo back down 1st Adams scored another spectacular goal shooting from 18 yards out and the ball going in off the underside of the crossbar, James quickly added a 7th with a well taken left footed drive from a Owen corner.
The game was then played out at a low tempo with Worthing conserving their energy.
Final score 7-2 no classic performance but job done and Worthing move into round 3
