Our first competitive game saw bexhill travel down to worthing. we have been ready to play a real game after a few weeks of pre-season scrimmages.
as the game tipped off we looked the aggressor & instantly took the game to bexhill.
back to back baskets from julian stanley opened up our scoring & we shared the ball for easy inside baskets, a quick 10 points from big man elliot “elbow” winfield put us up 18-0 forcing a time out from our shocked opponent finishing the 1st quarter with a flurry we netted a further 10 points & had done a solid defensive job on bexhill making the score after 1, 28-7.
2nd quarter we rotated all 5 starters & the guys coming in off the bench didn’t miss a beat, they kept the intensity & freely scored running our offensive sets to a tee
the scoring was taken over by joe hammond & sam gulla in the period both connecting from long range & dishing the ball off for easy open scores underneath the hoop.
Bexhill found their touch a little in the 2nd quarter scoring 16 points but we had scored 30 points ourselves making the score at the half, 58-23
at the start of the 3rd i put the original 5 back on & they didn’t let up,we were sharing the ball on offense & getting great shots, & defensively we were making it tough for bexhill.
we scored freely in the 3rd & ran up the score, outscoring bexhill 23-10 in the period making the score, 81-33 headed into the final stanza
again we switched up players & again i was very impressed with what i saw, the guys came in & continued to increase the lead, the defensive intensity upped & we played some great team basketball. we found our shooting touch in the 4th & sam gulla, joe hammond & ben evans all connected from down town! we hit 5 3pointers in the period & didn’t look back. we outscored bexhill 31-4 in the 4th an awesome defensive quarter, making the final score a convincing 112-37.
Hats off to bexhill, they never gave up but on the day we were too much for them & we’ll take the positives from this game into the next.
