Netball Performance Programme Round Up with Tina

Wednesday saw the Netball team return to the venue of the previous weeks victory in the County Cup Final for the West Sussex Schools and Colleges Tournament at Burgess Hill School for girls.

The squad had been decimated by injury or illness with 6 from the previous weeks squad missing, including Emily Begley and Katy Finlay which left us a shooter short. Laura Joseph came into the starting seven as WD with Sarah Uncles reverting to GD and Mele Jackson swapping ends to become our GA.

Katy Pearcy moved to GS as she was battling a severe sore throat, Jodie Beaney at WA, Lizzie Hall at C and Mele Stubbs at GK.

The teams in the tournament were pleased to hear that we were not at full strength.

The sun was shinning and Dave Hall arrived at the tournament like a Knight in shinning armour with the kit bag after the girls failed to put it on the  bus !!

Burgess Hill were our first opponents and the team played really well with the final score 19 – 5 win. Ardingly College were next and this proved a little harder but win we did. Up stepped a much improved Collyers team and up to half time the scores were level, Mele and Katie swapped positions at half time and this proved more successful and we beat them comfortably in the end by 8 goals. Finally a 2nd team from Ardingly stepped forward – it really was not a contest as the girls brushed them aside.

Two teams pulled out on the day, but it was still a tournament to win and the seven players did themselves proud.

Shame there is nothing this wed at Burgess Hill to play for!!

Netball success this year:- Winners Sussex Round of National Schools at Roedean, winning all 13 games, Winners of Sussex K/O Cup, Winners of West Sussex Schools tournament, Top of the BMW Brighton League Division 2 – unbeaten all season

Well done girls,

Tina
